While some lawyers are still pedalling, others are already launching a rocket

In my view, lawyers still use AI relatively little at work, and specialised legal AI tools even less. Even when such a tool is available, we often stick to what is familiar: ask a question, receive an answer and move on to the next task.

I have been using Spellbook every day for more than six months to work on contracts and other legal documents. I am increasingly convinced that the time I invest at the outset in adapting the tool to my work delivers significant benefits.

I find three capabilities particularly useful:

🔹 A prompt library. When I find a good way to ask AI to carry out a specific task, I save it. Next time, I do not have to start from scratch, and the whole legal team can use the same approach.

🔹 Company-specific playbooks. I use these to collect requirements and principles for reviewing contracts: what is acceptable, what needs attention and what wording we prefer. There is no need to explain it all again each time.

🔹 Workflows for recurring tasks. For similar tasks, I create a repeatable sequence of actions. Less time goes into writing the same instructions, leaving more time for legal assessment.

I feel this difference in my everyday work. There are more documents and answers are needed faster, but accuracy is still essential. AI output still needs to be checked, yet a carefully prepared workflow helps me work much more efficiently.

Buying a tool is not enough. It is worth learning to use the capabilities beyond the chat window, too.

If you would like to learn more about my experience with Spellbook and how I use these capabilities in practice, feel free to get in touch — I would be happy to share.
